This original watercolor painting is 13″ x 20″ and comes beautifully framed in white.
All of my original paintings include a certificate of authenticity with the painting.
When I paint in watercolor, I typically like to start out with an outdoor session to capture a scene, pulling in the design and composition of my subject, and getting a color study where I capture the colors and how the light and shadow play with one another. In some cases, such as with this painting, I used a reference photo. I start with a light sketch to capture the composition, then lay in lights to begin the process of homing in on color, light, and shadow. In this painting, focused on the light and shadow on the whale first, then moved to the seals, and finally the underside of the waves above to make it all work together.
