My Process:
When I paint in watercolor, I like to start out with an outdoor session to capture a scene, pulling in the design and composition of my subject, and getting a color study where I capture the colors and how the light and shadow play with one another. In some cases, such as with this painting, I used old family photos, other reference photos, and memories of East Boothbay, Maine.
This is an original watercolor painting is of a lobster boat at its mooring in East Boothbay, Maine. As the wind shifts, the boats turn into the wind together. This shifting around in the harbor is quite calming to pause for a few moments to witness. Watching the ocean always helps to put things back in perspective- the wind, waves, and the tides all remind us that we are a small part of something much larger. That perspective is so helpful when life seems to feel busier than it should. That peaceful feeling is what I am trying to convey in this painting.
Thank you so much for taking the time to view my work. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me anytime and I will be happy to assist you.
