This original watercolor painting is 9″ x 12″ and comes beautifully double matted and framed in white.
All of my original paintings include a certificate of authenticity with the painting.
When I paint in watercolor, I like to start out with an outdoor session to capture a scene, pulling in the design and composition of my subject, and getting a color study where I capture the colors and how the light and shadow play with one another. In some cases, such as with this painting, I use old family photos and memories, or in this case, a really old reference photo. I start with a light sketch to capture the composition, then lay in lights to begin the process of homing in on color, light, and shadow. I am happy with how the end result captures the essence of the Maine coast.
Spring Morning in Maine is about that feeling when you’re at the water in the spring, the air is cool but not cold, the wind is going a bit, and the first flowers are starting to blossom. There is a serene vigilance to Maine lighthouses. There is history, a window back to experience commonality with another time. I love them. I love the feeling they give me. I hope that conveys in this painting for you as well.
Thanks so much for taking the time to look at my work. I very much appreciate it!
